Pioneer Day Celebration

For Pioneer Day we went to the institute building for some pioneer games.    Here Daniel and Dad are doing the three legged race.

Eliza congratulated them as they crossed the finished line.

Bradley at the buffalo chip toss.  These are some authentic looking buffalo chips!

Eliza was very excited about the toss!

Eliza would have been a great pioneer.  She loved collecting the buffalo chips!

Bradley was very good at the buffalo chip toss.  He got everyone in.

Daniel couldn't get the hang of how to throw the chips.  Maybe next year.

They also had face painting.  Bradley picked a green butterfly.

Daniel got a Spider Man face.

Their favorite was the stick pull.
They also had watermelon seed spitting, corn husk dolls and buffalo hide stories.

Later in the day we had some friends over for hamburgers and  got the slip n' slide out.
Eliza and Edward are exactly one year apart in age.

We did a few fountains, some pop its and sparklers after dinner.
Daniel throwing pop its at a firework.

Then the boys had a little parade.

Daniel loves sparklers!

Edward wasn't as interested in them.

Eliza was very interested.  We had to  keep a close eye on her since she kept trying to touch the end.

Happy Pioneer Day!

Oh it is hot!

First I have to report that we have  a lot of tomatoes these days!
We also got our first zucchini squash!

We have had five days in a row with triple digit temperatures.  Bradley had a friend over for a play date and to play on the slip n' slide.

Destiny was in Bradley's kindergarten class.

Happy 4th of July

Uncle Levi, Aunt Amber and their family come to visit us for the 4th of Jule weekend.  While getting getting ready for our cousins to come we found a small box turtle in the yard.  Dad almost ran it over with the mower.  We kept it safe until our cousins came so they could see it and then let if go in the yard.  We saw him a couple days later crawling in the grass.

Since he keeps showing up I guess we should name him.

Here are all the kids in their Sunday clothes.

Daniel, Locke, Eliza, Cannon, Zora, Verin, Xane, and Bradley

It was fun trying to get everyone to look at the same time!

On the 4th we went to Apex, NC for their old fashioned parade and other activities.  There were lots of bounce toys to place on.

Making a game plan.

The horse races were a big hit.

The kids watching the parade.  Their favorite was all the candy they got!

The Fire department had their ladder truck out spraying the crowd since it was really hot!

Who doesn't like

Looking back at the main street and the big party!

Taking a potty brake before heading home.

While some of the kids played on the slip n' slide Andy took Levi and Amber to check out Duke University.  This is the front of the cathedral.

It started pouring rain around 3:30 so we decided to watch "Gnomeo and Juliet."  Eliza loves Cannon!  She kept following him around and trying to get him to play with her.  She snuggled him on the couch during the movie.

We got a break in the weather around 7 pm, so we headed out to do some fire works.

Sparklers and fountains are the only things legal here, but the little kids didn't mind.

We had a lot of fun with our cousins and hope they come again soon!
