Firsts in October

We have had a few firsts in October this year.  Some have been more delightful than others.  To start off, Bradley has his first near stitches experience.   It was after school on the 18th when Bradley started looking for an after school snack.  He climbed up on the counter but couldn't see what he was looking for so he started to get down.  He slipped and hit his chin on the way down.  I looked over when he started to cry and saw blood on his fingers when he touched his chin.  I got him a tissue and we kept the blood from getting everywhere.  I couldn't see how deep it was, but I could see that it was at least an inch long.  It popped open pretty wide, so I knew that something needed to be done.  I called my neighbor Margaret to come sit with the other kids so I could take Bradley to the Urgent Care Clinic.  While I was waiting for her to come I called Andy.  It took him a couple minutes to get to me.  Bradley had calmed down, but didn't want anyone to look at his chin.  Andy wanted us to wait until he could come look at it before we did anything.  The Chiefs let him off a little early so he could come check things our.

He wouldn't let us look at the cut.  I had to put the other kids up stairs in my room watching a movie so we wouldn't traumatize anyone.

We ended up wrapping him up in a blanket and putting him in a headlock so that Andy could clean it and get a good look.

Andy didn't think it needed stitches, so he super glued it closed.

Bradley calmed down quickly when Andy finally said, "We're done."  I wanted to beat the boy for traumatizing me!!

I have been very sensitive to people climbing on my counters since then.

 

For a more delightful first we will go to Nathan.



I laid him on his blanket to play on his 17 week birthday.  He played very well, so I was a little surprised when Eliza started yelling, "Nathan is coming off!"  I looked over and this is what I saw.

 

He was so pleased with himself.  All he needs to do now is get those shoulders up and he will be clear over!

I can't believe how quickly he is growing!

Oct. 18-19, 2012

Kids in October

After the ward camp out I went to the adult session of Stake Conference and Andy kept the kids.  Eliza had so much fun that she was plum tuckered out!

The boys love playing games with Dad.  "Spot It" is one of our favorite games.

I have been pumping a bottle a couple times a week so that Nathan will get use to taking one.  The other night I had some things I needed to get done, so Bradley offered to feed him for me.  It was really sweet!

Nathan also enjoys kicking on a blanket.  Sometimes he get a little tired from all the exercise.

One day when we got home from picking the boys up at school we found a large lizard in the drive way.  He was just sitting on the cement.  He wasn't nervous about the kids at all!  They walked right up to him and he just sat there.

Bradley really wanted to hold him, so I told him to just pick it up.  He grabbed the tail and the lizard just hung there.

 

Yeah, Bradley may not be a Crocodile Hunter or a Snake Stalker, but he could be a Lizard Lord!

Daniel went on his first field trip to a pumpkin patch.  He was super excited about riding the bus and picking his own pumpkin!

A Little October Catch Up

To start the month off we had to get a couple pictures of Eliza and Nathan together.  Eliza loves to hold "My Nathan" and it has been fun to measure his growth by how well she can/can't hold him.

Nathan is all smiles when he wants his mom to pick him up.  I love this boy!

We also took dinner to our old neighbors after they had their twins.  They had family in town for the first four weeks, so we waited until they left.  The kids were more excited about the cats than the babies.  Bradley got this one cornered long enough to play with it.

These are the new arrivals.  They are so cute even when they are crying.

As we were hurrying out the door we learned a good lesson.  When your mom tells you not to leave things behind the van you should listen to her and this is why.

One of these things is not like the other. 

Hard lesson learned.

Park Days

Nathan loves the great outdoors.

We took Owen and Margaret with us.  It was a park we had never been to before.  It was a lot of fun.

We are going to have to take our brothers here one day.

Conference Weekend

Since conference doesn't start until noon here we have all morning to enjoy some family time before quieting everyone down for the main event.  Sunday morning it started to rain, so we sat in the garage and watched the rain while dad read to us from "Serpent Tide."  It is a really good book.  We recommend it to everyone.

Ward Camp Out

We went to Falls Lake for the ward camp out.  We got there in time to set up and get in on the dinner.

The continued to play after Mom, Eliza and Nathan headed home.  A friend that lives near us road home with us for the night.  We were back for breakfast the next morning.

Dad cleaning up the tent site.  He was a good sport to stay with the boys considering I forgot the air mattresses and he isn't as young as he use to be.

A couple of people brought some fishing rods so the kids could try their hand at fishing.  They loved it!  Eliza stayed busy throwing sticks into the water.

He was so proud of his line, hook and worm.  He was excited to go "fishing".

Dad and Nathan kept a close eye on the fishing.

One of the kids caught a fish and started yelling.  ALL the kids went running like rats to the Pied Piper!  It was cute.

They caught a small blue gill.  Brother Dattilo had to hold it and let all the kids touch it before they released it back to living free and in the wild.  It was the one and only lucky fish caught by our group that day.

We walked around enjoying the fresh air and the trees.  We met up with another family and the kids played soccer for a while.  Daniel was excited to be bigger and finally have the upper hand.  Poor kid...it is rough being Bradley's younger brother.

Eliza didn't want to go back to the cars because she didn't want to go home.  We had to sweeten the deal by offering her a piggy back ride.

It was a great Ward Camp out.  We really enjoyed visiting with more ward members.
