Oct. 8-10, 2015
We had a fire safety week were there were different activities around base to bring fire safety awareness to everyone. On Thursday Sparky was at the game next to the school. Nathan was super excited to see Sparky. He got a helmet and a picture, and....
to sit in the drivers seat of the fire truck! He is pretty sure we should get one of these.
It is a big ladder truck. The nice fireman said it was a small one with only a 75 ft. ladder. That sounds big to me, but then I am not familiar with too many firetrucks. :)
On Saturday the 10th they had an open house at the fire station. They had lots of activities and even gave rides in the fire truck. It was a great morning!
This is one of the BIG trucks they use on the flight line in case of emergency.
Daniel tried his hand at the ball toss.
This snake toss was my favorite. :)
For safety reasons they used rubber snakes for the toss. ;)
Eliza, Daniel, Dad, Nathan and Bradley getting some goodies from the BX table..
They had cool draw string backpacks for the kids. They could walk down the table and pick all kinds of free things! We came home with way too many hot pads!!
Another look at the goodies at the BX table.
Another fire and rescue truck.
We watched a water demonstration by the BIG daddy truck. It has a lot of water power!
Of course no event is complete without popcorn!
Nathan and Dad working on their hot dogs and drinks.
They had tables set up for the kids to get an up close and hands on experience with the safety gear the MP's use. Bradley decided to try the bullet proof vest.
It goes over the head...?
Yep!
Not complete without the helmet.
At attention soldier!
Daniel found the gas mask.
He looked a little bug eyed.
Bradley trying the gas mask.
Daniel looks pretty serious with the helmet and goggles.
Bradley decided he needed to try all the gear.
All decked out! (Don't worry, there wasn't a gun in the holster.)
One of the nice Base Security Guards let the kids sit in the driver seat and showed them how to work the lights and sirens. They had a lot of fun.
Daniel was the first to take a look.
Nathan just liked to be behind the wheel.
Dad and Daniel checking out the spot light.
It works pretty well.
Bradley didn't want to get out of the car.
We watched the guard hand cuff a lady and put her in the back seat. He let her go after a couple pictures. We thought it would be funny for our dad to get hand cuffed too. There was a line, so we didn't do it. Maybe next time. :)
The EMS was there as well. They let the kids try out the stretcher.
Daniel took it very seriously. This is his impression of how one would look on the stretcher.
Nathan trying hard not to laugh while be pretended to be very sick.
Bradley did the best impression! He is a riot!
Eliza just made it look good! She is such a sweet girl.
Bradley also had to try on the fire fighter gear. He says it is pretty heavy.
It might be a little big too. :)
Nathan was super tired by the time we left. He just had to try the gas mask one last time.
Now this is how you make it look good!
On the way to the van the kids tried the smoke house. You can see the "fire" on the stove behind Daniel and Nathan went in by themselves. The fireman talks to them about being safe while cooking. Then he showed them how quickly a room can fill with smoke. He had them get down and crawl to the door. Then they tested the doors to see which ones were safe to open. He explained that hot doors have fire on the other side, so you should never open a hot door. It was a pretty cool experience. It was a great fire safety awareness week. We are so grateful to have so many great resources here.
