Our cousins came to visit us for their spring break. Unfortunately I didn't take very many pictures while they were here. We did go to see some historic sites and I let Andrew take some pictures.
Eliza and Abby chasing Canada geese at The Bennet Place, a Civil War historic site.
Next we went to the Duke Homestead.
Abby and Daniel
Since I had been there a couple times before I was the unofficial tour guide.
Janna and kids in front of one of the curing barns.
Inside the curing barn, those are bright leaf tobacco leaves.
The sorting barn.
Me showing what a "hand" of tobacco leaves ready for sale looks like, back in the day.
Poor Caden was pretty tired and slept through most of our visits.
Daniel standing in front of one of the factories. They were doing some maintenance on the factory. This is where they beat the tobacco leaves down to use for snuff and to rolling cigars.
"I'm coming Mom."
Eliza insisted that she walk everywhere. She is getting so big.
Ice house/well house.
Taylor, Daniel and Abby checking our the chicken coup.
Grape arbors
Caden outside the kitchen door of the Duke Family home.
This sewing machine is from the same era as when the Duke family resided there.
The mantle is the parlor.
This is a couch from the same time period.
We really enjoyed having them visit. We played with our stomp rocket, rode bikes, went to the park, watched movies, made hair bows, and planted a garden. The only damper on the whole trip was when Taylor got sick. Later we found out it was because he had appendicitis, and then his appendices ruptured. He is doing a lot better now and is no longer in the hospital. We are so glad that he is doing better now. Get a lot of rest Taylor so we can play hard when we come to visit!
