FHE at Bear Canyon Campground

For FHE on June 17, 2013 we decided to have a picnic up at Bear Canyon Campground.  Aunt Andrea met us at the Nephi City Park and rode up the canyon with us.  Grandpa met us up there after work.  It was perfect weather for the outing.

Aunt Andrea, Bradley, Eliza and Daniel

Mom and Nathan enjoying some Lasagna.

Grandpa eating watermelon with his lasagna.

For dessert we had ice cream with caramel and chocolate toppings!

Bradley adding a little extra chocolate.

Nathan was just getting over a cold and wasn't sure how much of this outing he liked.  Really he just wanted to get down and play in the dirt.

He got excited about having ice cream though.

Grandma documented the outing well.  She is now a blogger and is really getting into it.

Eliza was ready and waiting for us to get done so we could go hiking!

Daniel enjoying his ice cream.

Aunt Andrea really enjoying her ice cream.  You got a little ice cream to go with that topping?

Aunt Andrea offered to carry Nathan up to the water fall.  I was so excited!

Until Nathan decided he needed his mom.

Bradley and Andrea, the forest ninjas.

Sending the bear bait up the trail in front of us.

These little flowers smell like popcorn.  I love them!

Some little mountain bluebells.

Bradley the King of the Rock!

Bradley the strong and amazing!

A look up the mountain.  There are a few little waterfalls visible in this area during the spring.

Eliza, Bradley and Daniel standing where the avalanches come down.

Bradley found a good sized boulder that was carried down the mountain during the winter.  Andrea thought it looked like the perfect place to do a little ballet.

What a graceful little Rock Ballerina.

Some more beautiful mountain flowers.
It was so pretty up there because the cattle hadn't been up that high to graze yet.

We stopped at the shale slide to look for fossils.  The kids were very excited to "hunt" for fossils.

Grandpa doing some inspecting up close.

Bradley with his fossil.

We only stayed a few minutes due to the hour of day.

Daniel doing an up close inspection of the rock.

Aunt Andrea insisted that we needed to have a sing a long as we hiked to the waterfall.

Grandpa and Aunt Andrea showing the kids the "Indian Mailbox."

Bradley wondered what was inside the mailbox.  Aunt Andrea was giving him some examples of what could have been found there.

Bradley, Daniel, Eliza, Nathan and Mom riding the log.

I love the columbine that was growing around the river.
I have been inspired by my favorite brother-in-law, named Tyler, to try getting pictures from a different angle that shows the beauty of the are.   I have been looking for new ways to get pictures as cool as Tyler's.  Some turned out better than others, but I will get there.

We finally made it to where we needed to cross the river.  Grandpa stood on the logs and helped everyone across.  Eliza was a little bit nervous, but did a great job.

Grandpa helping the boys across.  I think everyone made it across without getting wet.

Andrea and I trying to decide who should go first.

Mom and Nathan making the crossing.

We made it safely!

Looking up to the waterfall.

Another beautiful mountain flower.

A group shot in front of the waterfall.

Grandma getting a picture from the high ground.
Eliza was happier to be there than she appears in the pictures.

Nathan was enthralled with the water.

Documenting  Grandma documenting us.  :0)

A Tyler inspired picture of the waterfall.

As we started back down towards the trail Andrea was on the other side of the river.  Bradley and Daniel kept throwing rocks in the water to splash her.  The water was frigid!

On the return trip Daniel and I both stepped in the water in the same place.
Bradley thought it was extremely funny.

Andrea and Grandpa helping Grandma back.
She has to stay on level ground or her foot starts to hurt.
I think she was in a little bit of pain on the way back down.

We all made it across safely.

Mom and Nathan peaking out from behind the trees.

Eliza tripped and needed a ride to help her feel better.  Thanks Aunt Andrea!

Daniel and Bradley laying in wait.

Attack!!

Daniel felt like he needed a short ride  too.  Just to make things fair.

Go Aunt Andrea!

Nathan decided he was done the front pack.
Freedom!!

Nathan really wanted to get down.

Back at the van.

I thought this dead tree was striking against the green foliage.
It was a perfect evening for a short hike.
