Shuler Reunion

June 28, 2013
The Shuler were camped up Payson Canyon and invited us to come up and find them.  It was a beautiful HOT day, so we were excited to head for the mountains.  We went up Nephi Canyon and over the Nebo loop.  It was a gorgeous drive!

This is Nebo from below Devil's Kitchen.

We picked the boys up after swim lessons to go up the canyon.  They were suppose to put a change of clothes in the van, so they wouldn't have to wear their swim suits.  We got to Nephi only to find the clothes had been left at Grandma's house.  After swim lessons we ran to the Family Dollar and got them a pair of shorts and a t-shirt.  As we went to pick Grandma up I realized they didn't have any underwear!  After picking Grandma up we headed back to the Family Dollar and she ran it to get some.  The boys love their new shirts and shorts.

Nathan loves to be out of his car seat!

Heading back to the car.

Another look at Nebo.

Nathan got too tired, so he had to rest his eyes.

This is at the Nebo scenic overlook.

I have been trying to get pictures from a different angle to capture just the right look.  I call these my "Tyler inspired shots."  This is because Tyler always get really cool shots using a different angle.  So I laid down to get a shot and some people driving past stopped.  As soon as I got up they headed out.  We aren't sure what they were thinking as they came upon us.

My Tyler inspired shot of Nebo.

Just passing the summit.
It is safe to say there isn't anything this high in North Carolina.

This is looking out over Utah Lake.

This one is looking down into the Provo/Orem area.

As we pulled into the campground we were met by the local wildlife.
This cow came tearing threw the trees and continued down into camp.
Then all the little boys chased her away.

Sarah, with her dog Maggie, Grandma and Eliza.
Eliza loved Maggie.

The kids found rocks to paint.
I remember doing this when I was younger.  They all enjoyed it.

Bradley working on his rock.
His rock ended up looking pretty brown.

Daniel did a great job and used lots of colors on his.

Eliza just loved mixing all the colors.

Uncle Richard played his guitar and sang a little for us.

The kids took turns riding bikes around.
Daniel crashed once and got a couple pretty good bruises.
They all had a lot of fun.

Some more serious rock painters.

Lee and Wendy Pope
Lee told me he broke his leg fighting off a bear that was trying to attack his grand kids.
The grand kids said he broke his leg when he was trying to show a nervous granddaughter that it was okay to leave the trail.  You will have to decide which story you like best!

After visiting for a while we decided to stop by Payson Lakes for a little walk.  It had been years since I was there last.  The breeze off the lake felt really good too.  We did have to have a small snack before we headed around the lake.

Looking out over the Lake from the Pier.
Notice the small gap where part of a board is missing?  Eliza stepped just right and her foot went threw.  I think she was more scared than hurt.  I helped her pull her foot up and as she pulled her foot came out of her shoe.  I could just see it fall into the water.  Luckily I was able to grab it before it fell and pull it back up through the gap.

Daniel peeking over all the vegetation to see the lake.

Bradley, Daniel, Mom, Nathan and Eliza crossing one of the small streams.

We stopped at this little grassy point because this is where Aunt Carolyn painted a picture of Sarah when she was a little girl.  Grandma also remembers coming here to play and seeing hundreds of little toads.  She said they had to be careful where they stepped so they wouldn't squish them.

Daniel pulls his hat down so low you can't see his face.  Just before Grandma took this picture I stole his hat and put it back on so that you could see his face.

As soon as we got back to camp Eliza went looking for a puppy.
She found one.

The kids did a play that was a mixture of Hansel and Gretel and the Three Bears.
It was fun to see all the Shulers and visit with them.
Thanks for taking us Grandma!

Poor Eliza hasn't been getting her naps in.  She gets pretty tired and a little bit cranky sometimes.  She has just fallen a sleep snuggled in a warm blanket a few times.

Just Dance with Aunt Andrea

One of the activities we have enjoyed the most is having a dance off with Aunt Andrea.  She is pretty good, but we are getting better!

Daniel and Bradley got the hang of it pretty quickly.
