We left for Florida, by way of Atlanta, on April 12, 2014. Since we were going to be gone a whole week we decided to leave love notes for our dad. We didn't want him to feel unloved. :0) While I was helping the kids hang their notes all over the house Nathan got into the markers.
He wanted to be the love note I guess.
Notice his "Harry Potter" scar.
He did a fabulous job.
Our drive to Atlanta was pretty uneventful. The kids traveled well and we made good time.
Once we got there Uncle Tory and I took the kids to the park near their house while Aunt Bethany worked on dinner.
Walking up the sidewalk to the park.
Saturday evenings at the park are pretty busy. There were hundreds of people out having a BBQ and enjoying each others company. We were the only white people there.
Sarah Jane loves the slide.
She is an avid climber as well.
Her dad was good to support her daring climb.
Daniel and Bradley quickly found all the other good climbing places.
Bradley thinks our park should have one of these.
Sarah Jane and Nathan really enjoyed the swings.
(I just realized I didn't get any of Nathan though.)
Daniel
Eliza loved this spinning pole. Any time she got on it the other kids would come right over and spin with her. They may have liked her long hair.
She has quite a bit for a 4 year old.
Nathan wanted to bounce up and down on this thing just like the older kids, but he wasn't quite big enough to make it work without some help.
Sarah Jane and Nathan
I think some people though these two were twins. I kept getting compliments on my babies beautiful blue. Of course I took credit for both darling children. :0)
After going to church and then having nap time we visited the Oakland cemetery.
The gates going in.
This plaque gives more details about the cemetery.
The following pictures show the different styles and feeling around the cemetery. Each plot is so different from the rest. These are some of my favorites.
Nathan started to get a little cranky so Aunt Bethany gave him a ride. That cheered him up.
These two wanted to try everything!
I believe this is a Dogwood tree.
Uncle Tory created a scavenger hunt for Bradley, Daniel and Eliza.
It was really nice for me. They stuck right with him and had a really fun time looking for things.
Some of there pictures are below.
The woman of Knowledge.
Bradley playing the air harp.
They found our family name.
The goldfish pond.
Daniel with the crown
Sarah Jane with a Hickey. :0)
Stain glass windows. There were several but I liked these best.
This looks Greek to me.
This one has gargoyles on it.
Eliza, Daniel and Bradley
Mia and Bethany
Aunt Bethany's friend, Mia, came with us. It was fun to visit with her and get a feel for the sweet spirit she is.
Gargoyles
I think these are some type of cherry blossoms.
A typical seen for the day.
The plots were stair stepped. I am use to flat uniform cemeteries, but this one is amazing!
The picture says it all.
This is a monument to the Confederate Soldiers.
Taking a little brake. I believe Sarah Jane fell on her head after this.
It was so sad!
Nathan having a little snack.
This is the section where all the confederate soldiers were buried.
They were buried more uniformly.
This is a "Tyler" shot with the dogwood blossoms.
In memory of the unknown Confederate dead.
This is the Jewish section.
Another "Tyler" shot. I love the feel the purple flowers to the headstones in this picture.
More evidence that Nathan loves his Dad!
Eliza loved all the Stars of David.
Last "Tyler" shot.
By the end we were all getting a little tired and Daniel was the only one willing to pose with this impressive gentleman relaxing in his chair. I love it!
