After our boat tour of the harbor we went to the museum. Nauticus is an amazing naval museum.
One could easily spend ALL day in just the museum.
Mom, Eliza, Daniel and Bradley by the cool mermaid fountain.
This was a really neat picture showing the size of the crew assigned to a "boat."
They had a fun sea chest full of clothes to dress up like a sailor in the Navy. They had articles of clothing dating back pretty far.
This was a fun area for kids to play and explore. When we got here I looked around and realized I couldn't see Daniel. I asked Andy if he knew where he was and he didn't. It became obvious pretty quickly that he was lost. Andy started walking around while I kept the other three to look for Daniel. A couple minutes later Daniel walked around the corner almost in tears. When he realized he couldn't see us any more he got pretty scared. At first I was upset and wanted to give him an earful until I saw how upset he was. Then all I could do was sit and hug him and remind him of why we ask them to stay close. He didn't leave our side the rest of the day.
This was a wild crew!
A look at the USS Wisconsin from the museum.
They have a small aquarium section in the museum. This was a pretty creepy eel.
Nathan, Eliza and I hanging out in the shark cage. You can't see it in the picture, but there was a shark swimming around on the screen behind the cage...and it was HUGE!!
This globe showed the real time weather around the world, so Andy got a picture of Sandy moving in.
This little underwater explorer crane was fun for the kids to try. They had controlls to move the arm and pick up objects in the sand. They were struggling a little, so Dad HAD to go in and help them. :0)
On the way out there was a channel table. This lets you explore different ways to channel water. There were three little boats that would float down the table. It was a lot of fun!!
After much threatening and tears we managed to pull the kids away from the channel table to go out the the USS Wisconsin.
One of the hallways had a spooky red light in it. Since it was the weekend before Halloween we had to get a picture.
They only have the officers quarters open to the public right now. This room is pretty small even for an officer. I would hate to see what those poor enlisted guys had.
The officer's facilities...the shower
the throne...
Another officer's quarters.
Then we moved outside to check out the deck and guns.
It was a tough crew on board that day.
The museum has a new conference hall that will accomidate cruise ships to dock. I thought the sail boat next to the cruise ship made for a great picture. It is amazing how far we have come in the our water travels.
Back to the guns on deck.
With an anchor this size I don't know how any ship could float, and this one had two!
We recommend going to check out the USS Wisconsin and Nauticus if you are ever near Norfolk, VA. It was a great experience and had a lot of really neat displays! Speaking of neat displays, check out the mermaids!

After a long day we headed to our hotel to swim and get some rest.

I can't believe Andy didn't want a mermaid picture! You all look like you had so much fun! I love the informational tidbits you include, then I can almost feel like I was right there with you!
I think my favorite ones are the explorer crane, the shark cage, and the Daniel story!
