North Carolina State Fair 2013

Since this is our last year in North Carolina we decided we needed to go to the state fair one last time.  The first thing we saw at the fair were the turkeys, chicken, ducks, etc...  There were some pretty impressive poultry.  I was thinking they would make a great Thanksgiving dinner.  :0)

Most of the turkeys had their feathers fluffed.

This is what a first place turkey looks like.

We all liked this little chicks "hair."   It was cuter than the one that got 1st place.

This rooster wanted everyone to know that the sun was up and had been for hours.

A couple more of our favorite chickens.

This robot was out in front of the National Guard tent.  It was fun to watch it drive around a little.

PBS had a large tent at the fair with hoola-hoops all around the tent.
Bradley is pretty good at it.

Daniel did a great job with the hoola hoop as well.

Mom and Eliza

Next we headed for the livestock barn.
They were showing the dairy cows when we were there.

There were a lot of good looking cows.
These are part of the 2 year old competition.

There were several mamas and babies on display.

Also on display were some goats, chicks and piglets.  I just couldn't get a very clear picture of them.

We had to check out the over sized pumpkins.
The blue ribbon pumpkin is 799.6 lbs.
The red ribbon is 499.1 lbs.
The white ribbon is 437.6 lbs.
The yellow ribbon is 405.75 lbs.
The green ribbon is 345.5 lbs.

Around noon we headed out to find the Warburtons and some food.
We had corn dogs, hamburgers, fries and a turkey leg.  I was really wishing I had some salad by the time we got done!

Edward, Emily, Catherine, and Eric Warburton
Eric is in residency with Andy, and Edward is exactly one year older than Eliza.
We had fun visiting with them and doing a couple rides.

Bradley, Eric and Edward on the Rockin' Tug.
Daniel was on the other side by himself.  I just didn't get a good picture.

Eliza and Dad when on the next ride.

Next we tried a couple games.  This one each of the kids got to pick two ducks.
Everyone who plays is a winner!  Bradley and Eliza are looking for the best ducks.

Daniel picking his ducks.

They all picked swords as their prizes.

Andy talked them into trying this game rather than going on another ride.  They shared a basket of ping pong balls.  If you get on into a fish bowl you win a gold fish.

Guess who won!?
Eliza was so excited she won.
Unfortunately her poor little fish only lasted about 36 hours.

We watched the dog show and the pig races before heading back home.
Eliza and Nathan are battling each other.

Nathan didn't think Eliza was a worthy opponent so he turned to a new opponent.
He got his dad right in the face!

And the pig races are up and running...

They race around the track for cheesy curls!

While we waited Andy went to find some red velvet funnel cake with cream cheese frosting.  It was awesome!  I am pretty sure I need some more.

Mean while back at the races.
These ducks made an appearance. Just out of the gate.

Neck to neck racing towards the finish line.
It was fun to see them waddling around the track.

We also got to catch a goat race.

The winner sharing his spoils of racing.

The final race was the heavy weights...that's right!  Potbelly pigs.
The tension was high.

And they are off...

The race was tight...

Hugging the corner...

To the finish line!
Before each race the owner would pick some one in each section to the cheer leader for that race.  Bradley got picked for one of the races.  For the final race he picked women to be the leaders.  The woman from the winning section got to kiss the winning pig!
I didn't get picked.  :0)

This little potbellied pig is the winner and this woman gets the kiss!
She was pretty embarrassed, and no she did not really kiss the pig.
We had a great day at the fair.
