July 17-18, 2015
We drove to Atlanta on the 17th. We didn't make hotel reservations ahead of time, so all the hotels with rooms big enough for us were already full. We finally found a hotel with two suites next to each other. Quincy and Ruth met us there so that we could go to Stone Mountain the next day. It was by far the dirtiest hotel room I have ever seen! Definitely would NOT recommend it.
Happy 8 week birthday Josh!
July 18th
We made our way to Stone Mountain in Atlanta, GA.
You might recognize this place from pictures the Anderson family took.
A little better view of the picture carved on the side of the large stone!
The park at the base was very pretty. It was pretty hot though!

There were little coves representing each of the southern states.
This one is for our favorite Smith cousins!
There are several areas with large rocks that are part of the landscape. The kids had a lot of fun exploring and climbing.

Bradley got wiped out by the heat pretty quickly.

Mississippi
Some historic facts about Mississippi
Texas, 'cuz everything is bigger/better in Texas. :) Plus we know and love a lot of people there.
Pres. Jefferson Davis, Gen. Lee and Stone Wall Jackson are depicted here.
More history about Texas.
We headed up to the Memorial Hall to see the museum inside and to get out of the heat!
It was very interesting to learn more about the creation of this master piece. It had three different project managers. The design also changed more than once.
The sculptures are very big!
Inside the theatre learning about the history surrounding the area during the Civil War.
We talked about hiking up to the top, but it was really hot. Instead we headed for home.
It was a long two week road trip, but we saw a lot of really neat places and some of our favorite people. Uncle Quincy and his family came home with us to spend the night before heading home to San Antonio, TX.
