The kids had the day after Valentine's off so we headed out to Asheville to visit with our Dad and see our TN Mitchell cousins. As we have driven out to Asheville I have noticed an old fort off the free way about 30 miles to the east of Asheville. As we were getting close I asked the kids if they wanted to stop and see the fort or keep going. They opted to stop and check it out.
This is basically the "watering" hole. They also got there food and pay checks here.
This fort was originally built in the 1700's, but has since been wiped out by a flood. They have rebuilt it to look like the original.

The fort wasn't really open that day, but there were a few volunteers that were working around the grounds. They gave us a few details about the fort and encouraged us to come back for a reenactment in March.
We have really enjoyed all the history there is on the east coast!
