Feb. 24-25, 2015
After the Museum of Natural History we headed to the David Letterman show. We got free tickets to the Late Night Show.
We passed the CNN building...
And got some soup at The Original Soup Man.
This was featured on an episode of Seinfeld. The soup was really good!
Outside the theatre.
It was an interesting experience to be part of a live audience. We had fun watching how things are done, but we were pretty tired after an hour of clapping and cheering for an hour. We couldn't hardly hear afterwards either. The live band was really LOUD!
Another look down the avenues.
We had dinner tuesday night at Benjamin's Steak House.
It is one of the top ranked in the nation! The food was great...it was a once in a live time experience.
As we made our way back to the hotel we saw more street dancers.
They stood like statues until someone put money in their box and then they would dance around.
The cowboy was my favorite.
Followed by this Hill Billy. He had a small broom as a prop.
He was really good with it!
The third guy didn't move off his stool. He did better than I could do.
This fire truck was just outside our hotel. We heard emergency vehicles non-stop while we were there.
There were a lot of pigeons
On our last morning (2/25) I had to document the security force they have at Times Square.
They call this the eye in the sky.
A police officer is stationed in this box and lifted into the air with cameras to monitor the activities on the square.
We decided to ride the subway down to see the southeast side of Central Park before he had to check out of our hotel. This subway had some fun murals on the wall.
Cool building near the park.
Another bridge and duck pond with Manhattan in background.
This tree was growing in a very unique way.
This is the kind of rock that makes it possible for so many buildings to be on such a small island.
Ice Skating rink in Central Park.
We passed through the Central park Zoo.
The zoo wasn't open yet, so the sea lions were the only animals we saw as we passed through.
Central Park Zoo Clock.
You may recognize it from Penguins of Madagascar.
North of the Zoo we found the statue of Balto.
Bradley had read the story of Balto and we knew he was there somewhere.
I was excited that we found him.
After leaving the park we headed to Yankee Stadium before we had to check out of our hotel.
First look at Yankee Stadium.
Yankee Stadium from the platform.
Andy by one of the many police cars we saw.
Andy in front of the stadium.
The stadium was closed to the public, but the team store was open. I realized we could see into the stadium if we parted the clothes on the wall. Looks like it could be a pretty happening place.
This parking area was right next to our hotel. It is almost $40 an hour for a mini van to park here.
We ate at this pizza place next to the hotel. The pizza was pretty good.
After checking out of our hotel we took the subway down to Coney Island.
This is a look at the Brooklyn Bridge as we crossed the river from Manhattan to Brooklyn.
It took us over an hour to ride down to Coney Island, so we didn't have time to get off and look around. Instead we took pictures from the subway as we passed.
It was closed due to weather anyway, so there wasn't much to see.
This is where they hold the hot dog eating contests.
The neighbor hoods are a lot different outside of Manhattan.
And the buildings are a lot smaller! ;0)
We made it to the airport with just a few minutes to spare. Our flight to Charlotte, NC was uneventful. There was a storm coming into Charlotte so the airport was cancelling all flights out of Charlotte after 8 pm. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 7:35 pm so we weren't too worries. We boarded the plane and sat for four hours before they cancelled our flight. We de-iced the plane twice and refueled once. We watched the last plane take off before we taxied back to the gate because the co-pilot timed out. The gate attendance was not very helpful at all. In fact she was really rude. We learned from the janitorial staff that they were handing out cots, pillows and blankets out in one of the terminals. When we went down there we found an airline representative that helped us rebook a flight. We ended up having to book a flight to Mobile so we could get home Thursday night instead of Friday night.
Andy called every car rental at the airport to see if we could rent a car and get home sooner. They were all priced ridiculously high.
My feet got pretty swollen, and a cot is only slightly better than the floor for sleeping.
It was a long night and an even longer day, but we finally made it home.
The kids were disappointed that we were a day late getting home. We were really grateful to Grandma K and Aunt Bethany for helping with the kids.
It was such a great trip to New York City.

I'm so glad you made it home. You had some great adventures. Those dancers looked pretty awesome. I think I would really like to visit NY, but never live there. Too congested, but they have some really amazing things
You guys did and saw some way cool stuff! I want to go with you next time you go... :)
Too bad about your delayed flight, but glad you did finally make it home! :)
