After eating a delicious lunch at Zion's camp we headed into Palmyra to see Grandin's Printing Press where the first books of Mormon were printed.
Grandpa and Eliza outside the backdoor of Grandin's Printing Press.
This is the front door that faces the street.
Once inside our group was lead on a tour by some cute sister missionaries.
This is the office area of the printing shop.
They had several historic books from the same time the Book of Mormon was published.
The small brown book on the counter to the left of Daniel is an original version of the Book of Mormon printed here at Grandin's.
This is a replica of one of the rooms where Joseph Smith translated the golden plates.
There was several displays that talked more about Joseph Smith and how the golden plates were received and eventually translated.
The kids learning more about how Joseph Smith translated the golden plates into the Book of Mormon.
This is an example of the manuscript.
This is a display of the way the translation was set up. Joseph Smith was the only one that looked at or read the plates. I loved the way this picture turned out with the lighting.
This shows what the writing on the plates looked like that Joseph Smith translated.
A picture of the Hill Cumorah in the early 1820's.
This is what the sheets of paper look like when they printed the Book of Mormon.
This is the printing press room. The pages where hung to dry after being pressed.
This is where all the type was stored. They had to fit each letter in with spacers in between the words.
This is the press. It was dirty hot work!
Andy and Macy
This shows the outside wall of the original printing press. They would use this lift to get the paper up to the second floor.
We have a great group of kids!
Daniel checking to make sure Josh is buckled in. For the long trip we had Josh in back between Daniel and Bradley. The easiest way to get to him was through the trunk. :)
After leaving Grandin's we headed down the road a couple blocks to see the Erie Canal.
This bridge, that Eliza is following Andy and Nathan to, crosses the Erie Canal.
Part of the Erie Canal goes over this dam. There are also locks built along the canal here.
This is looking from the bridge over towards the dam and an old mill.
This is looking the other direction. (I think this is to the East.)
We stopped by the locks first. There weren't any boats there while we were. It was really neat to see the locks and explain how they work to the kids. The canal is higher on the West side.
The lock isn't very wide, but it was pretty long.
This sign showed the canal and where the locks are located along the way.
We are here!
More info about the canal.
This is one of the anchors the boats tie up to when they are in the locks.
Brylee is the next karate kid.
Aunt Melissa, Uncle Daniel, Atlas and Aunt Lily.
This is the dam that is built next to the mill.
Uncle Levi was demonstrating what not to do...
After checking out the canal we lined everyone up for a speed walking race. Aunt Amber's brother Josh is a speed walking champ. He explained the rules and demonstrated the technique.
Lining up...
The race is on!
Some of the kids caught on to the technique, and others just ran!
I was the half way point. They just kept coming!
Zane had the technique down!
Here comes Zora, Verin and Eliza
These girls are so cute!
It was a lot of fun to see all of our cousins. We are so glad everyone made the effort to meet up for pageant.

I really like that one picture you took of the table and the feather pen with the window in the back ground. That turned out really nice. You could probably sell it back to them for their postcard cover... ;) Thanks for sharing your trip. Looks like you guys had lots of fun! :)
The first publication of the Book of Mormon was a miracle. I can't imagine all the work of printing it using the method they did. I love all the matching shirts. So fun!
