I was able to accompany Bradley on his field trip to the museum here in Durham. Since this year has been super crazy this was the only field trip I was able to go on with him. It was a lot of fun to spend some time with just him, and 9 other students. :0) Our first stop was at the butterfly house. They have been learning about life cycles and have focused a lot on butterflies.
We learned that some butterflies are nectar eaters and some are fruit eaters. I knew butterflies ate both, but I didn't realize that they only eat one or the other.
Bradley pointing out a butterfly.
Looking at more butterflies.
These are the kids in our group. They did really well and stuck right with me.
One of the fruit eating variety.
Another group shot.
They also have a black bear, wolves and some lemars outside at the museum.
I think the lemars were my favorite. We couldn't help but think about King Julian.
We did all the outside things first and then stopped for lunch.
Then we got a picture of all Bradley's class.
As you can see from Bradley's face it was very bright outside!
Next we headed inside to see all the cool experiments inside.
This one was my favorite. It shows how a tornedo forms. The kids had to blow the fog to make it start spinning and then it would reach clear to the cieling. It was pretty neat!
This one was pretty cool too. Two people stand at the line and when the timer starts you run forward and backwards at different speeds to make patterns on the screen. It is basically a radar that shows you your progress. The kids had a lot of fun with this one.
Then we headed to the North Carolina habbitat. This housed animals and reptiles that are native to North Carolina.
Yes, these are baby alligators. Fortunately the alligators are found in southern North Carolina and not so much up by us.
This opposum was sleeping when we went through. He had a little note saying he was sick and was only visiting until he got better.
Apparently they also have wood chucks around here. He was very interested in the packing paper and the cardboard box.
I was pretty tired after our visit to the museum, but I was very glad I got to go. It was fun to experience all the different exhibits with Bradley.
